Gardening Committee

Mission

The Mission of the Garden Committee is to help the BACC staff keep the green space on the church grounds healthy, inviting and beautiful all year long. The Garden Committee serves as a way to get folks involved in gardening who may not have access to a garden space where they live, learn about vegetation, get their hands in the dirt, get some sun and fresh air, as well as meet their neighbors; all to improve their mental health, build community and keep the gardens up.

Vision

We envision a clean, lush, flower-rich green space in the front public and back private gardens that serve as a space to connect folks to nature, cultivate good mental health, and provide food and habitat for birds and insects. We also want an abundant community garden bed and fruit trees to feed folks.

Responsibilities

  • Raking and bagging leaves

  • Properly pruning the trees flowers and shrubs and bagging cuttings

  • Clipping the hedges and bagging the cuttings

  • Soil turning

  • Planting flowers and food

  • Voicing your opinion on the needs and wants in the green space

  • Alerting the committee to anything broken, dangerous or ill in the green space

Volunteering

We need volunteers in the spring, summer and fall to help us with the above gardening duties! After you spend a shift of volunteering in the garden with us, add it to your resume!

Volunteering in the garden as a layperson or on the garden committee is a great way to build your resume while doing something good for your mental health, Brighton Center and for the church!

Neighbors, college students, high school students, folks who don't have garden space at their house or apartment and passersby are welcome to volunteer with us! Tools provided. Interested in volunteering? Contact us!
